@krishgm (Channel 4 News) and Louise...
Brokenbottleboy: Some messages slightly reordered to preserve thread of conversation.
KGM: [Channel 4 News Presenter]: So wants to be a Tory MP? [in response to Cameron opening the Tory candidate list]
LB: [Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Corby]: Many more people than want to be a Labour MP. Even though whatever their expense claims they never get sacked.
KGM: There are awful inconsistencies on all sides. what's the difference between gove and viggers? Or Hoon and Blears? ...or Kirkbride and Mackay for that matter....I still don't get why she's been treated differently by David Cameron....do you? Are you really suggesting she was right to have both her homes paid by the taxpayer?
LB: Sure! She has a legit 2nd home in her constituency, lives in London. What frivolous claims does [Michael] Gove have?
KGM: Michael was ordered to repay the furniture bill, so it was judged by [David Cameron] as wrong. Why is that any different to Viggers?
LB: Meanwhile... Labour MPs have actually claimed for phantom mortgages and still have the whip. Cam's acting & he's the only one.[Michael Gove was] ordered to repay furniture, which may have been claimed in good faith, and claiming for frivolity like duck house is different.
KGM: No I agree with you on Labour action appearing slow to many people...alhto they argue there's a process to go thru . Not sure many outside see it that way. I'd be very careful about trying to claim high ground. All sides look pretty bad.
LB: high ground vs any ground. Brown has done precisely zero to any MP. I oppose Phil Hope and was careful to be measured on ConHome. [Bagshawe attached her opponent Labour's Phil Hope over his expenses claims in a blog the Conservative Home website.] And actually... Recent polls measured opinion Cam's response vs GB, see PB.com. DC was miles ahead on response to scandal.
KGM: Both leaders have disciplined some (morley, malik, etc) and let off those close (gove, blears). I'm surprised you seem more proud of the DC response than ashamed of what they were up to to prompt it. And you'll probably beat phil hope anyway on the national swing regardless. So I wouldn't go on about it.
LB: Disciplined how? Forced retirement on pain of whip removal vs. Nebulous, consequence-free "suspension".
KGM: No the suspension is effectively the same as taking whip. and both are very weak. all are allowed to stay til next election.
LB: And dude, it is risible to suggest Mackay wasn't close to leadership, but you know that! [Andrew Mackay was David Cameron's parliamentary aide].
KGM: Yeah but it took a long time for Mackay to finally be sacked...and took til now for DC to say how serious the case is.
LB: He said it was serious when Mackay became first high profile resignation. Meanwhile [Jacqui] Smith remains [Home Secretary]
KGM: How do you think J Smith compares to Mackay? Very different allegations.
LB: Smith claimed a room in her sister's place was her main home! I have a lot of time for her personally, but her claim is the more egregious.
KGM: [Individuals like Mackay] could be told to resign straight away but haven't been.
LB: It needed investigation. Unlike Labour's, the result has been swift and decisive. No Labour MP yet forced to retire...even [Margaret] Moran [who used Parliamentary expenses to pay for dry rot in a second home located in Southampton - she is MP for Luton South].
KGM: There's nothing to investigate - he admitted it all on day one. What about [David] chaytor? [Labour MP suspended from the party for claiming expenses on a mortgage he'd already paid off]. Morley and Gibson likely to follow.
LB: Yes but his defence was fees office specifically oked it after he sought advice. [David Cameron's committee] had to rule.
KGM: I'm not sure you get how much politics need s to change now. The game of oneupmanship on expenses is just irritating.
LB: As [Prospective Parliamentary Candidate], I get voter anger first hand to my face. All parties guilty but voters looking to see what response is. [David Cameron] at least acting. Forgive me, but you excused Damian McBride [spin doctor for Gordon Brown forced to resign in the wake of the Smeargate emails] too at the time. Given all are guilty, difference in discipline levels means a lot.
KGM: Maybe we should come and follow you around on the doorsteps sometime. That's an outrageous suggestion. I never excused anything of the sort. I questioned some of your wider accusations - and @Tom_Watson successfully took legal action as I recall. [Tom Watson took legal action against two newspapers who linked him to Damien McBride and Derek Draper's smear campaign emails].
LB: No, you also minimized what mcBride did, arguing he was spad not civ svt etc. Off to give chicken pox ridden kids their tea... Look fwd to your report on c4 tonight, will watch!
KGM: Speak soon. What we said is still on twitter so go back and read it...but you really should be careful about accusations like that.
LB: Yes DM me I am sucking oxygen from all yr followers at this point - will dm you my mobile - later.
